Portland Cars and Coffee

Welcome to the original Portland Cars and Coffee event!  We have been meeting since 2008 to share in our love of cars, caffeine, and conversation.  Please come join us every Saturday (rain or shine) from 8am to 11am at the Starbucks at 15350 SW Sequoia Parkway, right off Carmen Drive (exit 291) at the merge of 217 and I-5.

This event is open to anyone interested in cars.  Every Saturday, rain or shine, and every weekend of the entire year.

“[The] goal for Cars & Coffee is to bring clubs, friends, family, enthusiasts, customers, etc together in a neutral territory…where they can enjoy cars they are passionate about, meet friends they’ve known for years, make new friends, and have fun in an environment that is not motivated by any dealership. …it’s not a competition and everyone is welcome at Cars & Coffee.” – founder Kevin.

Portland Historic Races 2013

Portland Historic Races 1964 Corvette

The Portland Historic Races are almost here!

June 28-30 of 2013 marks the 37th running of the Portland Historic Automobile races at Portland International Raceway. It is also the 60th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette. Two time Indy winner Al Unser Jr. will be the Grand Marshal.

Full details can be found at http://www.portlandhistorics.com/

Come join me for the racing, vendor midway, and collector car show. The entry list includes more than 250 prestigious historic race cars from a variety of manufacturers, domestic and foreign. Racing is sanctioned by the Historic Motor Sports Association which encourages the preservation and proper use of historic race cars. And the Collector Car Corrals and car show typically have over 750 cars to view and (almost) drool.

And for the sixth consecutive year, I will be coordinating the Charity Autocross in the infield pavement. All net proceeds will go to the Portland Community Transitional School, a school for children of homeless families. They have just celebrated their 5th anniversary at their permanent location at 6601 NE Killinsgworth. http://www.transitionalschool.org/

Finally, if you have a collector vehicle and would like VIP tickets to the infield parking, contact me at 503-703-0618 or mark@m-homes.net.

The amazing spring weather continues to bring out more of the exotic and collector vehicles!
Here is another of Logan’s video documentaries from the May 11th turnout.

As the sunshine has appeared, and the flowers have started to bloom, so also have the exotic cars made their appearance at our event.  Yet our garage “flowers” have some serious bite to them!

On sunny days we are now seeing between 80 and 100 cars per week at Starbucks.

Cold and clear is a recipe for exotic cars to arise from winter slumber and stretch their legs!

This past Saturday at Portland Cars and Coffee there were several who ventured forth in their favorite driver and came out for the conversation and caffeine.

Ferrari Club Wine Tour

http://portlandhomesforcars.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/407/files/blogs/fca-wine-shield.jpg

With a warm sun beating down on us, and a slight west wind blowing across the fields, the Oregon chapter of the Northwest Region of the Ferrari Club of America set out on our annual Wine Tour. Given the amazing weather, what started as a four hour tour grew to almost eight hours of pure driving excitement and fabulous fall weather!

2012 NWRFCA Wine Tour

The tour began at the Portland Cars and Coffee location following our weekly gathering.  Once we were properly caffeinated, we set out on an hour-long drive of the back roads north of Newberg.  I am unsure which was the best view: cresting a rise to see Mount Hood in front of me, or the line of colorful exotic cars in my rearview mirror as they followed in roller-coaster style.  Sometimes leading the tour is a bonus!

Lunch was served in the Executive Boardroom at JORY in the Allison Inn and Spa.  Recently ranked the #1 spa and #12 resort in the USA, their staff was simply amazing in catering to our requests.  Outside, our vehicles were treated to comparable service while they occupied the entire Valet parking area.  Not even the birds dared to fly over the cars!

Following lunch, we followed the roads to Adelsheim Vineyard for our first flight of tastings.  Once the designated drivers were able to overcome their envy towards the passengers who did not have to “sip and spit”, we departed for our second stop at WillaKenzie Estate.  Upon arrival, we were greeted with a wonderful flight of pinots to savor while enjoying their tasting room and panoramic vista.

Our final destination took us into downtown Carlton for a final flight at Omero Cellars.  After several lingering conversations and a last splash of tastings, the group dispersed to find their way home across country roads as the sun set in our rearview mirrors.

Ferrari Club Celebrates 50 Years

http://portlandhomesforcars.com/wp-content/themes/scholz_cars/images/default.jpg

Imagine a birthday party that lasted one full year, traveled 20,000 miles, and raised over $100,000 for charity. Would you join the party?

The Ferrari Club of America is celebrating its 50th birthday with a party! The centerpiece is a custom Ferrari 599 HGTE Rally Car, wrapped in custom decals to commemorate this party. Along the way, FCA members will be raising donations for the Ronald McDonald Home charities and the Seriously Fun Children’s Network.

The Portland party will be on Sunday September 16th from 3pm to 6pm at the future home of Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo in Wilsonville (25300 SW Parkway Ave). Bring your favorite exotic car and park on the grass, while enjoying this special 599 as the centerpiece of the car show.

On Monday, the 599 Rally Car and several FCA members will caravan to both the Ronald McDonald Houses to present a mini “car show” for the families and the staff at each facility.

Then on Tuesday, the 599 will lead a caravan of vehicles to Eugene for dinner with local owners.  And on Wednesday, the 599 will move to Medford prior to crossing into California on Thursday for the rest of it’s 20,000 mile travels around the US and Canada.

Could you get more opposite in performance? Handling? Interior styling? Detailing effort?

Yet perhaps they are more similar for fuel mileage, parts availability, and public impact.

This is but a sample of our weekly turnout at Portland Cars and Coffee, every Saturday morning 8am-11am, rain or shine.

Doernbecher Dash Races 2012

http://portlandhomesforcars.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/407/files/blogs/wf2n4424c.jpg

Imagine yourself in the passenger seat of a race car, being driven around Portland International Raceway, barely controlling your bodily functions, and all as a charity benefit for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital?

This year is the 28th annual Doernbecher Dash by Cascade Sports Car Club. Every year, CSCC raises donations through the silent auction, race car rides, and additional solicitations. Doernbecher patients and their families are invited to join us at the racetrack, receive lunch and event shirts, and be entertained by Jolly Molly the Clown and Creature Feature’s reptile show.

My favorite part is the exotic car rides! Every year I am fortunate to give “enhanced” rides in an exotic car. (Yes, the larger the donation, the higher the speed!) Last year my daughter got her first ride in a PURPLE Miata driven by DADDY! Still one of my favorite days of my life.

August 18 and 19, Saturday and Sunday, from 9am to 5pm.

Free admission, free fun, and free racing!

Once again, a fantastic turnout for our weekly Portland Cars and Coffee event!

Perhaps 90 cars?  I lost count when I got lost wandering around in the Porsches…

Just in case you missed it, here are two of our regular photojournalists.

Linh Pham does amazing work with his Leica M9.
His weekly picture album can be found at flickr  CLICK HERE

And Logan made another video of the cars in the parking lot, as well as a few leaving at the end of the day.  CLICK HERE for Logan’s video.
